Multiuse out-and-back trail that traverses montane forest and subalpine meadows. Sometimes rocky and rooty, with some loose climbs. Trail is also rough in spots. Good scenery and high elevations. Start at Sand Lake trailhead and ride uphill to Brooklyn Lake, then decend on the return. Access other trails (e.g., Quealy Lake) from Sheep Lake Trail. Camping nearby at both trailheads.
Take I-80 west from Laramie 40 miles to Arlington exit. Go under I-80, take first right. Take FR 111 to FR 101 (Sand Lake Rd). Take FR 101 south (left) for about 1 mile. Trailhead is on right (west) at Sand Lake, across the road from Rock Creek trailhead. Alternatively, take US 130 west from Laramie about 40 miles to FR 317 (Brooklyn Lake Rd.). Take FR 317 to Brooklyn Lake. The alternative trailhead is at Brooklyn Lake.
